As part of their efforts to support the Udom Emmanuel led administration in ensuring a clean and healthy environment, the Zenith Bank Plc, Wednesday, donated a good number of high quality waste bin to the State government.

The brief ceremony which took place at the State Waste Management Agency in Itam, Itu Local Government Area, was attended by top echelon of Zenith Bank in the State, led by the Zonal Head, Mr Asuquo Ita, Senior Manager, Mrs Dorcas Jackson, Mr Abraham, Deputy Managers, Mrs Susan Umoh, Mrs Ekaete Udoro, Marketing Executives; Blessing Imoh, Mr Ubong Akpabio, amongst others.

Speaking, the Zonal Head of the financial institution in the State, Mr Asuquo Ita, who said the donation was part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), observed that Zenith Bank Plc, was mindful of the environmental hazards posed by waste in the state.

Mr Ita, who pointed out that the gesture was just the first phase of the bank’s donation to the Environment Ministry, said their bank was committed to promoting environmental sanitation in Akwa Ibom.

The Zonal Head who thanked the State Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr Iniobong Essien, for bringing innovations and world class ideas to the Ministry, hinted that Zenith Bank Plc., was making efforts to ensure that people understood the importance of environmental cleanliness and hygiene in their various homes.

Responding the State Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr Iniobong Essien, who received the galvanized receptacles, on behalf of the State government, lauded the Zenith Bank family, for offering to collaborate with the Ministry, in keeping Akwa Ibom clean and green.
His words: “I want to say this is coming at the time we have acute shortage of these receptacles arising from people burning waste inside the receptacles and in the last one month we have lost over 25 receptacles.

“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to all and sundry to desist from habit of burning because it is environmentally unfriendly. More so, burning of waste inside the receptacle is totally discouraged. And for us as a Ministry, as we take delivery of these (receptacles), we are going to take steps to ensure we protect them and henceforth, whoever that we get burning down these receptacles would be made to face the full weight of the law”, Dr Essien stated.

In another development, the Commissioner, Dr Iniobong Essien, announced that as a result of the acute shortage of the waste bin, his Ministry has purchased a good number of highly quality receptacles.

Commissioner Essien observed that the waste bins would help the Akwa Ibom take care of their immediate environment as well as providing a healthy atmosphere in the State.
