Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has approved the establishment of 10 Sports Academy as well as an empowerment training programme for 329 youths in the State.

Speaking with Government House reporters after the weekly meeting of the Council, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah said these were part of the far reaching decisions taken in line with the empowerment drive of the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration.

 According to the Commissioner, the decision to establish the Sports Academy in the 10 Federal Constituencies of the State was taken with a view to harnessing talents from schools and communities, thus preparing them for future sports engagements and employment opportunities.

In the same vein, Mr. Umanah said an empowerment training in photography, videography and film production will be held for 329 youths to be drawn from all the wards in the State. He noted that the training programme was in furtherance of the job creation and skills development initiative of the Governor.

On the state-wide environmental sanitation exercise billed for Saturday August 29, Mr. Umanah mentioned that Governor Emmanuel directed “all Council members and other government official to take personal interest and mobilize participation in their respective areas for the cleanliness of the State.”

The Governor-in-Council, according to the Commissioner, also mandated EXCO members to work assiduously  towards attracting Foreign Direct Investment to the State.
