Governor Udom Emmanuel has extended a hearty congratulation to the newly elected Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Honourable Aniekan Uko and other members of the 6thAssembly who were inaugurated yesterday, in Uyo.
Speaking when the Speaker led other members of the House to pay him a solidarity visit, Governor Emmanuel promised to work harmoniously with the 6th Assembly to deepen the layers of superior performance, recalling that “The 5th Assembly worked very closely with the Executive branch to give the good people of Akwa Ibom State great service as encapsulated in the Uncommon Transformation.
“I am sure the 6th Assembly will also extend the same level of co-operation and harmonious relationship to us, as we work to give our people superior performance and bring to them the dividends of democracy. One of the defining layers of democracy is the principle of separation of power and the need for the three arms to work in strict co-operation to advance the people’s interest.
“I pledge to work with you, the Speaker and your colleagues to do the people’s work. Congratulations on your emergence as the speaker and God’s speed to your honourable colleagues”, Emmanuel remarked.
The governor also commended the House over the seamless manner the emergence of the Speaker had occurred and the spirit of love and togetherness exhibited by others who had fought for the same position, noting “This is a good for our democracy- the notion and belief that in any political contestation, there must always be a winner and the winner must be magnanimous in victory and embrace those who didn’t make it. This gesture was amply demonstrated by our immediate past President- Goodluck Jonathan, and I am glad to see that spirit manifest here in Akwa Ibom.”
