The Market women in Akpan Andem, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State has raised alarm over threat to lives by Blake And Harper Integrated Marketing Communications with head office at Abuja Municipal, Abuja, Nigeria.
The market women who came just few days ago to see a giant billboard mounted in the middle of the market which automatically has forced this traders to find themselves under the billboard.
The Image Management and Media Planning company BLAKE AND HARPER INTEGRATED COMMUNICATION COMPANY illegally mounted this giant billboard in the middle of the market without the knowledge of the Uyo Local government Council which has now become a tool for destruction.
Over 1,000 traders from Akpan Andem Market had taken to the street in a peaceful protest calling on the government and other relevant bodies to come to their aid as to ensure the safety of lives by the removal of the Billboard from the market to avoid danger.
The large crowd of protesters who marched with placards to the Government House and then to the Uyo Local Government Council had some inscriptions like
“TAKE THE BILLBOARD TO ANOTHER PLACE OUTSIDE THE MARKET”
“AKPAN ANDEM MARKET TRADERS DOES NOT WANT TO DIE”
“GOV. UDOM EMMANUEL PLEASE COME TO OUR AID”.
The Uyo local government council led by the council boss, Elder Imoh Okon, has ordered the removal of unlawful billboard from Akpan Andem market. The directives was made after an emergency executive meeting held on Thursday, at the executive chamber.
While briefing newsmen after the meeting, Elder (Hon) Imoh Okon sighted safety among other reasons why the dismantling of the Billboard is looming.
He said the sighting of such a huge metal in a crowded place like a market is a serious threat to human lives, and a risk that the government is not ready to toil with.
The Uyo council boss further stated that BLAKE AND HARPER INTEGRATED COMMUNICATION COMPANY, Abuja, owners of the Billboard did not get the full clearance from the Council before mounting it on that spot and that is not the sites given to him.
“We cannot sit and watch while the lives of our people are being gambled with, it is our duty as a sensitive government to protect the lives and properties of our citizens, therefore, as a Council responsible for the safety of our people, we have resolved that the Billboard should be removed with immediate effect “. He explained.
