A lawyer in Akwa Ibom state has described as irresponsible and misleading, certain comments by the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters(Senate), Mr. Ita Enang and has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to caution his aides on how they use his name to make careless statements in public.
Appearing on a live radio interview in Uyo, Buhari’s aide had told the people of the state that by virtue of the tribunal verdict, they should not show any further regard to Governor Udom Emmanuel as he was an illegitimate governor who is not recognized by President Buhari.
“Udom is no more the governor, and was only asked to sit at government house in an acting capacity because someone has to sit there and receive the monthly allocation of N18-25billion accrued from the federation account to the state, but we have made necessary arrangements to get the Appeal court to cancel the remaining 13 local government areas before a re-run,” Ita Enang said.
Reacting swiftly to this, Barr. Ndem Andem, a Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on legal matters, fumed at Senator Ita Enang for allegedly making treasonable comments from the judgement.
Describing Ita Enang’s opinion as a weird interpretation of a troubled mind, the governor’s aide asked “Is Ita Enang a technician that he should give a technical interpretation?”
He said “It is treasonable for Ita to impose his personal opinion in a judgement. Your opinion should not be used to confuse people”. “Rightly or wrongly, an aide should be careful not to misrepresent the President”.
“Ita is a sad reminder of a confused human being that is lost at his job description, and comes to arrogate to himself the position of PRO of the APC to misrepresent facts on behalf of the party.”
Andem said that Ita Enang had spent 16 years in the national assembly and was no longer in touch with legal practice, and challenged the former senator to come back and show which part of the judgement invalidated the election of Governor Emmanuel.
Clearing the air on the matter, Udom’s legal counsel explained that the tribunal had affirmed that Governor Udom Emmanuel was validly elected by the electorate, having polled the highest number of valid votes to defeat his opponent, Mr. Umana Umana, and wondered why a learned lawyer in the person of Ita Enang would twist a court judgement by ascribing Udom as a Care-Taker governor when the judge never said so.
Andem explained that the judges are human beings and could possibly make mistakes, and that is why the tribunal judge had advised anyone dissatisfied with the decision to appeal at the higher courts.
Barr. Andem urged Akwa Ibom people to discountenance the lies and propaganda peddled by the APC, noting that in the event that a re-run election is conducted in the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel will still defeat the APC Candidate, as he already has over 495,000 votes advantage in his kitty as against a paltry 37,000 votes by the APC.
He said Senator Enang was seen as a misfit in his official responsibility and that was why the president had to bypass him to make use of the Chief of Staff in sending the ministerial nominees to the Senate.
“If he truly understood his job description and was honest, the President would have no need to get another person do the job of his Senate liaison staff.”
Andem concluded that “I am a special assistant to the governor of Akwa Ibom state and anything I say or do would be seen as related to the position of the state government. Ita Enang should be mindful of what he goes around saying under the guise of body language of Mr President”.
