THE choice of Mr Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State as the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015 governorship election was a wise one, State Chairman of the party; Obong Paul Ekpo, has proclaimed.

According to Ekpo, in just two and a half years of being in office, the Governor has remarkably reshaped the state, proving that indeed, good governance was possible if done with sincerity of purpose.

The party Chairman who spoke Wednesday, when he and other stakeholders of PDP accompanied the State Chief Executive to assess the level of work done on some of the road projects in Uyo metropolis, stressed that Governor Emmanuel’s administration was in tune with the expectations of the people.

Some of the projects inspected were; six (6) roads in Atan Offot community, the Ring Road 2 opposite the Udo Udoma Avenue roundabout by Aka Road, ten (10) internal roads in Ewet Housing Extension as well as the outfall drains on Edet Akpan Avenue.

Describing the Governor as “the best product”, Obong Paul Ekpo, hinted that Akwa Ibom people who are primary beneficiaries of his gargantuan achievements were in high spirit already, to vote for Mr Udom Emmanuel and the PDP in the 2019 general elections to consolidate the Superior Performance of the current administration.

Earlier, Governor Emmanuel said, he was impressed by the top-notch quality and tempo of ongoing road works in the State and commended contractors handling the projects for adding value to his industrialization drive.

At Ring Road 2 where the team, led by the Commissioner for Works; Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, had a brief stopover, the governor recalled that the area, prior to his administration, was completely shut down.

He commended the contractors handling the job for the level of work done, quality side-drains and concrete pavement assuring that by May 29 this year, the road would be ready for inauguration.

On the ten number of internal roads in Ewet Housing extension with reclamation of flood zone and outfall drains in the area, Governor Emmanuel, said he was full of praises to God that his two and a half years old administration was able to end a long-lasting challenges that was faced by residents of the area especially during rainy season.

“The only complain some people have against me is that I have done four times better than what the first term governor could do. If that is the only offence I have committed, I am sure they will pardon me because we came with a lot of passion to do a whole lot. I don’t see myself as a first time governor, I see myself as somebody who has a mission and we are on a course here not on an applause”, Governor Emmanuel noted

Demystifying the role of infrastructure in the State’s economic development, Governor Emmanuel clarified, “if you do not put quality infrastructure on ground, the industries would not start. That is why we are doing so many projects at the same time… We are just trying to put these things in place to enable us drive our industrialization policy”.

At Atan Offot, it was indeed, a sight to behold as residents thronged out in large numbers to welcome and celebrate Governor Udom Emmanuel who visited the area.

Youth, women and even the school children chanted various solidarity songs for the performing governor while others were seen displaying different placards with various inscriptions urging the Governor to seek a re-election to enable the State experience more superior performance of his administration.

Explaining the reason behind the uncommon show of gratitude by the residents of Atan Offot, the governor hinted that, ” For a very long period, there was no access to the area. Atan Offot was completely cut-off and today if you look at the number of roads and the distance we have constructed there… That is why the whole place got shut down. People came out in large number to appreciate just an inspection”.

Meanwhile, dignitaries who accompanied the governor on the inspection tour were; Secretary to the State government; Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, members of the State Executive Council, Executive Chairman, Uyo Local Government Council; Elder Imoh Okon, Chairman, Uyo Capital City Development Authority; Prince Enobong Uwah, Senior Special Assistant, Bureau of Technical Matters and Due Process; Elder Ufot Ebong, stakeholders of the PDP, youth and women leaders.
