Evangelist Mrs. Mary Bassey Udoekong is an accomplished medical expert, born in Ndisiak, Nsit Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
She is a retired Chief Nursing Officer from the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, who has contributed immensely to the growth of her community, the State and nation at large, especially in the area of promoting good health and quality medical service.
She started her career at Polyclinic, Essene in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area in 1983, and thereafter, Saint Luke’s Hospital, Anua, Uyo in 1987.
In 1991, Udoekong was at Staff Clinic, Governor’s Office, Uyo, before she transferred her service to the then Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, now University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where she retired in 2015.
Because of her outstanding service, upon retirement Udoekong was found worthy to serve as Deputy State Director, Health Infrastructure of OMPALAN, a post she is holding till date.
Apart from being a health specialist, she is also a politician and grassroots women mobilizer, currently serving as Adviser, Uyo Senatorial District Women Forum in Ibesikpo Asutan.
A diehard member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mrs Udoekong is a member, National Council of Women Societies, and had also served as member, Council of Elders of Goodluck Support Group in 2013, Group President, Bureau of Political and Legislative Affairs. She also served as the Local Government Returning Officer in both Presidential and Governorship elections in 2011.
She is a humanitarian par excellence and has attended several workshops and seminars within and outside the country among them: Action Training on Care and Support at the Institute of Human Virology in Nigeria, South Region, Uyo.
Born on the 13th of August, 1962, Evangelist Mary Udoekong has 35 years of experience in the medical profession with a Certificate of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
She holds a Professional Diploma in Safety and Security Management from Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori.
Evangelist Mrs. Mary Bassey-Udoekong has a clean record of meritorious public service with outstanding performance and this is what Nigeria needs at this critical time of nation building.
She’s bringing in her wealth of experience to bear in the political development of Akwa Ibom State. She holds the key to some problems facing the people, having spent a greater number of her working career with them especially those at the rural communities.
She is a woman of God, a compassionate mother and philanthropist with high level of integrity, hard work and committed to touching lives most especially those of his immediate communities in Uyo Federal Constituency.
Udoekong is out to represent the good people of Uyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in the next year’s general election. She did creditably well in her little capacity as a civil servant and is ready to perform better when given higher opportunity to serve in the National Assembly.
She’s an epitome of humility, honesty with deep respect for elders and constituted authorities. She is a strong voice to the voiceless, a friend of the poor and the needy. This is the time to support gender equality, which Evangelist Udoekong represents. There’s the need for more women to be encouraged to occupy more leadership positions to help build a strong and healthy societies.
