…as New Revenue Committee resumes work

24 hours after inaugurating Uyo Investment and Revenue Committee, the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government, Elder Imoh Okon yesterday handed over a newly purchased waste evacuating truck to the 17-man revenue committee to be used for daily evacuation of waste in Akpan Andem Market.

 

The Chairman who embarked on inspection of the market shortly before the handing over expressed satisfaction on the corporation of market traders in the restructuring of the market by his administration and further restated his commitment in returning the market to its original state as a city market.

 

He said the truck is to be used to evacuate heaps of waste littering around the market and further called on traders in the market to make very good use of the truck in order to keep the market clean.

 

While flagging of the daily evacuation of waste in the market, Imoh Okon said the truck will be stationed permanently in the market and is expected to pack waste at least 5 times a day.

 

As at the time of filling this report, 73% of sellers of different commodity on the access of road of the market have relocated to their allocated platforms and market stalls while others are expected to follow suit within the week.

 

Meanwhile, the 17-man Revenue Committee set up by the Uyo Local Government Chairman on Tuesday 30th January has since resumed work at its corporate office, No. 155 Ikot Ekpene Road.

 

The Committee which is headed by a former Secretary of Uyo Local Government Council, Hon. Chris Etim is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing all Internally Generated Revenues in Uyo Local Government Area.

 

Among those who make up the committee are Mr. Emmanuel Sampson, Hon. Nse Ndoh, Hon. Unwana Young, Elder Ini Nyong, Mr. Emmanuel Gibson, Mrs. Emem Chinedu among others.
