As campaigns ahead of the December Local Government polls in Akwa Ibom State, begin in full swing, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairmanship Candidate for Uyo, Elder Imoh Okon, has vowed to run a transparent administration, if elected as Council Chairman.
Elder Okon stated this over the weekend, at a Solemn Assembly organised by the Uyo Chapter of PDP in collaboration with Divine Choice Campaign Organisation, held at Sir Val Attah’s Field, Osongama Estate, Uyo.
Speaking with newsmen, shorty after the event, the Uyo Chairmanship Hopeful said the event was aimed at seeking divine intervention in the much awaited Local Government election, noting it was also borne out of his recognition of God’s supreme authority to elect leaders.
Speaking further, Elder Okon described himself as a staunch believer in God’s ultimate power, saying anyone who refuses to recognize such power, is bound to fail.
“God is the beginning of everything, any man who refuses to recognize the authority of God is a failure, I was brought up in the way of the Lord, so I understand the power of God in all things that we do”, he said.
Continuing, Elder Okon said when elected as Council Chairman, he will offer effective leadership, rooted on transparency, innovation and goodwill, pledging he will also ensure servant leadership to people of Uyo.
“I have a vision for Uyo people, my vision is to offer effective leadership that is rooted on transparency, innovation, goodwill and servant leadership, so that we can make Uyo, our fatherland great”, he added.
While praying for God’s wisdom, the Uyo PDP Chairman Candidate said he will achieve his goals through four cardinal points, which he noted include robust empowerment, rural development, improved internally generated revenue, active social welfare and renewed partnership for good governance.
“My mission is to make Uyo the cynosure of rural and community development in Nigeria. These I will achieve through robust empowerment, rural development, improved internally generated revenue, active social welfare and renewed partnership for good governance.
“We have done what God has asked us to do, handing over everything to Him, as we want to start campaigns next week, it’s God that is in charge, as we will be going to the polls, it’s God that will be in charge. The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom and one thing I’ll ever ask God is wisdom to lead”, Elder Okon maintained.
On his part, the Political Leader of Uyo, Sir Val Attah, thanked the people of the area for cuing behind Elder Imoh Okon and urged the Chairmanship Candidate not to deviate from his primary duties, when he eventually gets into office.
He described him as a servant of Uyo people and, “not Val Attah, not Enobong Uwah, not Murray, not Babantan and no other person, except, the people of Uyo. And where you deviate, we shall remove you.”
Earlier in his homily, Rev. Joshua Giddle, who preached from Palms 136 :1-26, said the problems facing Nigeria is spiritual and therefore need spiritual solutions, and noted the administration of Elder Imoh Okon will be successful, since he has acknowledged God’s supremacy.
Highpoints of the event event were special prayers for Uyo LGA and a successful elections, for Elder Imoh Okon.
Those who graced the event were the Vice Chairmanship Candidate, Ambassador Udeme Ukai, Uyo PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon. Idorenyin Orok, the clergy, including the Senior Pastor of HolyGhost Ambassadors, Apostle Nyeneime Andy, founder of New Birth Bible Church, Archbishop Josephine G. Eggah , Elder statesmen, women and youths groups.
